Do you know your true skin type?

02/07/2018 0 Comment(s)

Did you know that many people use the wrong products for their skin type?

Using wrong products containing different active ingredients can cause more issues with certain skin conditions.

First and foremost, there are five main skin types: sensitive, dry, combination, normal and oily. Then, depending on your skin type, you will need to address additional concerns such as blemishes, wrinkles, pigmentation, sun spots, large pores, rosacea and many more!

It’s also important to know that your skin changes over time, due to hormones, sun damage menopause etc. Your lifestyle plays a role in this too.

To determine your skin type we have the best tip, it’s quite simple: Wash your face with a gentle non soap cleanser to remove all traces of makeup, dirt, excess oil, follow with a moisturiser.

Wait for around 15-20 minutes to see the results

  • If your skin looks shiny, especially on the “T-Zone” (forehead, nose, cheeks) while the other areas are quite dry, it means your skin is combination. You need to use products that will help you regulate your sebum (oil) excess on the T-Zone, but will also moisturise the dry areas of your skin. The Magic mud mask is brilliant in helping to balance out this skin type.
  • If your skin shows some excess sebum, feels slick and has a shine, then you probably have oily skin. Use products to combat oiliness. H&B’s Drying Lotion is perfect for oily skin and soothes at the same time- combined with our oil free moisturiser.
  • If your skin shows no signs of oil or dryness and your skin looks even and healthy,  you have a normal skin.
  • If your skin feels tight or looks flaky with barely visible pores, this shows you probably have dry skin that needs to be hydrated with deep moisturisers like our Intensive avocado & aloe vera cream. Also use gentle exfoliators like the unique peeling gel which removes dead skin cells but doesn’t result in scratching on the skin as it doesn’t contain peeling grains.
  • Sensitive skin usually occurs when you have a highly reactive skin and using the wrong products. The surface of the skin tends to become dehydrated and dry also showing redness. But you can overcome this skin type if you are following our tips and using the correct products.

OK, you have your skin type. Now what?

The next step is to treat the skin type you have and avoid using products that create a skin type you don’t want.

But, it's not just about your skin care routine either. Lifestyle changes such as eating healthy, balanced diet and avoiding bad habits like smoking, alcohol consumption and lack of exercise all contribute to a less-than-ideal complexion. And of course protecting your skin from sun damage is at the top of the list - By making sure you have an SPF in products you are using.

The good news is that you have control over all those factors!

Feel free to look around our product range and grab the right products your skin needs to battle any of those unwanted issues or conditions.
